CLOT20 RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION TO OPEN IN SHANGHAI: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF CHINESE-WESTERN CREATIVE FUSION

CLOT announces that it will host CLOT20 RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION, a large-scale anniversary exhibition at Shanghai's brand new cultural landmark C·PARK Haisu from 22 September to 29 October 2023. All are invited to witness the brand’s extraordinary journey over the past 20 years and experience its unique legacy rooted in Chinese culture.

Founded by Edison Chen in 2003, CLOT was born out of a desire to bring cultures together, showcasing to the world the immense influence of Chinese streetwear. In an unprecedented way, the brand combined elements of creativity from the East and the West, and became the first Chinese brand to collaborate with internationally renowned brands such as Disney, Nike, and Ralph Lauren. This catalyzing moment propelled CLOT into a position of endless creativity, and successfully stepped onto the world stage with a solid reputation.

CLOT is not just a fashion brand; it also does event planning and music production, and has its own retail concept, JUICE. Edison started CLOT as the foundation for bridging Chinese and Western cultures. Holding onto this mission, CLOT has hosted numerous concerts and large-scale cultural and music events in the past 20 years, including the “One Engine Tour” in 2004, Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky” Concert in 2006, and a touring concept store titled “Man is in the Forest” – a collaboration with Disney in 2010. While introducing Western streetwear into China, it has simultaneously drawn inspiration from Chinese history, philosophy, medicine, mythologies, and other key cultural elements to create contemporary, globally iconic designs that are rife with Eastern influences, including the popular CLOT x Nike launches "Kiss of Death", "Silk Royale" and “Terracotta” – with the latter inspired by the historical Terracotta Army.

 “20 years is a long time. 20 years is a legacy. We were once underdogs and nobody believed that we could do it, but somehow, in some way, I believed in my dream and I worked hard to really try to push through and persevere. What I wanted to really convey to the audience and the exhibition-goers, especially with the young kids, is: Look, if we can do this, so can you,” shared CLOT Founder and Creative Director Edison Chen.

The CLOT20 RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION will inaugurate its opening in Shanghai with a remarkable display of over 100 iconic products. Through tracing the chronological development of the brand, this grand showcase shall offer audiences a chance to delve deeper into CLOT's past, present, and future. In continuation of its mission to bridge Eastern and Western cultures, the exhibition will be built around the theme of the Five Elements - a concept drawn from ancient Chinese philosophy. Through five immersive zones represented by gold, wood, water, fire, and earth, audiences will be able to experience the brand’s most representative stories, both told and untold.

The exhibition begins with the captivating Wood Zone, showcasing CLOT's journey from its inception to the present and particularly focusing on the development of its unique brand culture. Moving on to the Fire zone, visitors will encounter the concept of sublimation, or reaching new heights, and witness the brand’s East-meets-West concept and its role in igniting innovation in the streetwear world. The Water Zone creates an immersive atmosphere that celebrates CLOT’s dynamic creativity, emphasizing fluidity and its remarkable ability to adapt. In contrast, the Earth Zone uncovers the brand’s deep-rooted connection with its Chinese heritage through a narrative portrayed by its most iconic pieces, highlighting CLOT’s commitment to preserving tradition while innovating for the future. Finally, the Gold Zone offers audiences a glimpse into never-before-seen classics and archival prototypes, including items from Founder Edison Chen’s personal collection, making it an unmissable experience.

Aside from the immersive exhibition experience, the first floor of the exhibition venue features a CLOT20 POP-UP STORE, where visitors can discover and purchase special collectible souvenirs commemorating the occasion. Visitors will find numerous co-branded products pre-releasing exclusively at the pop-up, with a rotation of new items regularly. Please note all exclusive products sold during the CLOT20 RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION duration are limited in quantities; first-come, first-served. For further excitement, customers who spend a specific amount at the pop-up store will be receiving a token to enter the gacha machine lucky draw, for the chance to win a mystery gift.

CLOT has also collaborated with Chinese beverage industry giant Heytea for a limited-time pop-up, offering drinks exclusive to the exhibition and special packaging guaranteed to make for an unforgettable experience.
