NIKE x CLOT "LIONDANCE" Collection Celebrates Basketball With Chinese Lion Dancing Inspirations

In celebration of basketball’s global championships in Beijing this year, CLOT is furthering its longstanding partnership with Nike through a collaborative capsule collection. Inspired by his Chinese heritage and love for basketball, CLOT Creative Director Edison Chen wanted to encapsulate the two through an unexpected common thread: Chinese lion dancing. Celebratory and thought to bring in prosperity, longevity and good luck, lion dancing is not only an outward illustration of Chen's Chinese roots but more importantly, representative of three things all basketball players wish to have on or off the court.

Presented through an energetic video featuring Hong Kong basketball player Adam Xu and directed by Hong Kong director Vernie Yeung, the collection is displayed in a thrilling lion dance showdown. Juxtaposing traditional lion dancing with futuristic twists, CLOT’s Creative Director Edison Chen wanted to highlight the movement and details in the pieces with the main color palette of red and black.

The collection includes a jacket, basketball jersey, basketball shorts and headband. Each piece features bold graphics such as a lion dance costume head on the jersey and an embroidered CLOT dragon plus the words “冠军” (champion) on the shorts - symbolizing Nike and CLOT’s best wishes to all the competing teams.

Subtle design elements that pay homage to lion dancing while remaining functional for basketball or casual wear are seen throughout. Extra flap details in the lion heads’s design on the jersey create an enhanced sense of movement, while additional loops added to the hem of the jersey and headband are a subtle nod to the lion dancing costume. Red – CLOT's signature color – is used throughout with an added gradient that represents the brand's evolving and growing partnership with Nike.

The exclusive Nike x CLOT “LIONDANCE” collaboration will be available at special pop-ups at JUICE The Box Xintiandi in Shanghai and JUICE Beijing starting August 28. The collection will also be available on August 28 at JUICE The Box Sheung Wan in Hong Kong, JUICE Taipei, JUICE The Box Taipei, JUICE Taichung, JUICE Los Angeles and JUICE Chengdu.
